Verónica Hidalgo | Prioritise yourself, your health comes first

When your body forces you to stop

The year can start with the happiest event of your life… and, within hours, turn into an emotional rollercoaster.

That's what happened to our dear friend Verónica Hidalgo (Miss Spain 2005 and our latest guest on "Tiempo vivido") when, after giving birth, she suffered an unexpected complication that led to emergency surgery and made her feel like she had "been born again".

Suddenly, health becomes the centre of everything. And what previously seemed urgent (the pace, work, "holding on no matter what"…) becomes small in the face of a simple reality: when health fails, everything else falls apart.

We are not immortal: health reorders everything

There are moments you can never get back, and that's why they hurt so much. Not being able to hold your baby for days, missing their first bath or first bottle… is an emotional wound that leaves a mark.

But it's also there that an uncomfortable truth appears: we are not immortal.

Many times we normalise living under tension, with a packed agenda and an out-of-control nervous system, until life forces us to stop.

Then you understand that taking care of yourself is not a luxury or a whim, but a need and a priority.

Family, the anchor when everything shakes

In the most difficult chapters, resilience simply means keeping going one more day.

And in those moments, your family can become your anchor. The support of her partner, the presence of her mother, the love of her daughter and the feeling of not being alone, even when the body is weak and the mind won't let up…

All of that gave Verónica an invaluable strength. And that accompaniment, silent but constant, can be the difference between giving up or continuing when it seems there is no energy left.

Prioritising yourself is not selfishness: it's survival

That's why our final reflection is as direct as it is necessary: prioritise yourself.

Because taking care of yourself is an act of self-love, yes, but also of love towards those around you. Eating better, moving, resting, asking for help when needed and building habits that sustain you is an act of justice, responsibility and love.
